Edward Teach (aka Blackbeard) Flag (3' x 5')

$7.95

This three (3') H x five (5') W foot Edward Teach (aka Blackbeard) Flag is a great decoration for the beach house, patio or rec room.  Made of 100% durable polyester it's lightweight, has been double stitched and uses two (2) brass grommets.  The black, red and white colors are sharp and the dye has been processed for UV (ultraviolet) fade resistance.

The flag of Blackbeard, as we know it today, is a black banner with an image of a horned skeleton holding an hourglass in its raised right hand and a spear in its left.  It is said that the skeleton is toasting the devil with the hourglass.  Below the spear is a red heart with three drops of blood below it.  The pierced heart symbolizes that no quarter would be given.

Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard, was an English pirate who operated around the West Indies and the eastern coast of Britain's American colonies.  Little is known about his early life, but he became a renowned pirate.  His nickname derived from his thick black beard and fearsome appearance.  He was reported to have tied lit fuses (aka slow matches) under his hat to frighten his enemies.  He was killed by the British in a battle off Ocracoke Island, NC in November 1718.
