Not all beaches are on the ocean and Lake Winnipesaukee has some great beaches (e.g. Carry, Long Island, Waukewan, Weirs, etc.) so if you vacation there this Lake Winnipesaukee Plank Map should be of interest. "Winni" is the largest lake in New Hampshire covering ~70 square miles, the 3rd largest lake in New England and is located in the Lakes Region at the feet of the White Mountains.

The Abenaki name Winnipesaukee, often spelled Winnipiseogee in earlier centuries, means either "smile of the Great Spirit" or "beautiful water in a high place".  At the outlet of the lake, the Winnipesaukee people, a subtribe of the Pennacook, lived and fished. Today the site is called The Weirs, named for the weirs that were noted by the colonists when first exploring the region and Weirs Beach is now one of the centers of activity on Winni, especially during Laconia Motorcyle Weekend every June.
